US Vows Continued Support for Pakistan in Fight Against Terrorism Amid Rising Security Challenges

The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to stand "shoulder to shoulder" with Pakistan in its ongoing battle against terrorism, particularly in the wake of a series of devastating attacks in Balochistan last month. This was underscored during a meeting on Tuesday between US Ambassador Donald Blome and Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

During the meeting, held in the aftermath of violent incidents that claimed over 70 lives in Balochistan, including a heinous attack in Musakhail where armed men executed passengers after checking their identities, Pakistan sought the US's help in addressing its pressing security and economic challenges.

State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller, while addressing the media, emphasized the shared interest between the two nations in combating threats to regional security. "The United States and Pakistan have a shared interest in combatting threats to regional security, and we will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with Pakistan in its fight against terrorism," Miller stated.

He expressed deep sympathy for the victims of terrorism in Pakistan, noting the significant suffering endured by the people at the hands of violent extremists. "Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of those killed," Miller added.

The discussions also touched upon Pakistan's ongoing energy crisis. Miller noted that addressing the country's energy shortage remains a priority for the US, and the two governments continue to engage in discussions on enhancing energy security.

In response to a query about Iran's ultimatum to Pakistan regarding the gas pipeline project and the threat of an $18 billion fine, Miller reiterated the US stance on sanctions against Iran. He warned that any business deals with Iran could have serious consequences, advising all parties to be cautious.

As Pakistan grapples with both security and economic challenges, the US's continued support appears to be a crucial element in the country's efforts to stabilize and progress.
