AJK PM Abolishes Special Secretary Posts, Restricts Vehicles for Officials

Newly elected Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore on Monday announced significant administrative reforms in his first address to the Legislative Assembly. The PM declared the abolition of Special Secretary and Senior Secretary posts and stated that secretaries will be entitled to only one official vehicle each.

Rathore highlighted that governance is a shared responsibility, not only for himself but also for all those who voted for him. He recalled the legacy of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, emphasizing that Bilawal Bhutto entrusted him with the responsibility of leading AJK.

Addressing public service, Rathore said, “The problems of the people have to be solved within available resources. Some issues were delayed previously, but I assure that there will be no delays from my pen.”

He also stressed that despite perceptions, he and his team are not privileged politicians. Rathore mentioned that he sold his personal property to fund his election campaign and pledged transparency regarding his assets.

The Prime Minister outlined other key reforms, including:

  • Limiting secretaries to one vehicle each, with the total number of secretaries capped at 20.
  • Merging tank posts of the Education Department into the main Education Department.
  • Ensuring equal opportunities for women in government jobs.
  • Implementing judicial reforms.
  • Granting an additional one-month salary for Grade I employees.

Rathore also expressed his commitment to strengthening relations with Pakistan and addressing genuine issues raised by the AJK Action Committee, including refugee seat concerns.

The announcement follows the successful no-confidence motion against outgoing AJK PM Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, after which Rathore was elected as the new Prime Minister, securing 36 votes in favour and two against in the 53-member assembly.
