Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon Rejects MQM’s Call on Province Division

Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Monday rejected claims about dividing Sindh, saying the province is not a “cake to be divided” and such talk is futile. The minister made these remarks during a press conference in Karachi, responding to statements by MQM-P leader Mustafa Kamal.

Memon said the MQM is trying to revive its “dead politics” by making emotional statements, adding that the party’s tactics are outdated. “Listen to the MQM's words in one ear and throw them out the other. All the tactics of MQM politics are over. If the MQM does positive politics, we are with them,” he said.

Addressing claims about local government reforms, Memon clarified that the 27th Constitutional Amendment did not include provisions on local governments. He added that MQM had boycotted previous local government elections knowing they would not perform well, rather than due to any political obstruction.

Memon also referenced the Charter of Democracy, highlighting that constitutional courts were always part of the political framework, and dismissed suggestions of any secret clauses being accepted by the PPP.

The minister’s remarks came after MQM-P leader Mustafa Kamal had warned of potential consequences if the PPP did not consider proposed amendments on local governance. Memon, however, reiterated that Sindh’s unity is non-negotiable and any talk of division is politically motivated.
