Body of Missing Toddler Found in Drain, Cousin Detained in Rawalpindi

The body of a nearly one-year-old girl, Maryam, who had gone missing from the Ratta Amral area, was recovered from a drain on Saturday. The accused, who allegedly threw Maryam into the drain, is reportedly her minor cousin, according to initial investigations.

Maryam had gone missing while playing in the street with her elder sister, Masooma, in Waheed Colony. Her disappearance sparked a police investigation, and a case was registered at Ratta Amral police station upon the request of Maryam’s grandmother, Masarat Bibi.

CCTV footage revealed that the accused, a minor and Maryam’s cousin, was seen carrying her away. During initial questioning, the detained child stated that he threw Maryam into the drain because he did not like her.

Following the discovery of the body, a postmortem examination was conducted, and the body was subsequently handed over to the family for burial. The police have sent the accused minor to the Child Protection Bureau on a court order to ensure his custody and further investigation.

The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising urgent concerns about child safety and the protection of vulnerable children in the area.
