Mubashra Khawar Maneka, daughter of Bushra Bibi, withdrew her petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking meetings with her incarcerated mother, officials said on Monday.
The plea, filed on January 16, requested permission to meet Bushra Bibi, the wife of jailed PTI founder Imran Khan, who is serving a seven-year sentence in the £190 million corruption case and a 17-year sentence in the Toshakhana-II case.
During Monday’s hearing, Justice Farooq Haider upheld the objection raised by the LHC registrar’s office regarding territorial jurisdiction, noting that the principal seat of the LHC did not have authority over matters concerning Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi. Following this, Maneka’s counsel withdrew the petition, and the plea was disposed of.
The petition, filed through LHC Bar Association President Malik Asif Nissoana, listed the Inspector General of Prisons, superintendent of Adiala Jail, and other officials as respondents. It alleged that Maneka was barred from meeting her mother despite being a blood relative and with Tuesday being the designated day for visits. The petition claimed the jail administration had failed to provide any written justification for denying the visit.
Maneka expressed concern about her mother’s physical, emotional, and psychological well-being, asserting that the jail authorities’ actions demonstrated “mala fide intent” and misuse of authority.
Bushra Bibi’s imprisonment stems from high-profile corruption cases, including the Toshakhana-II case, which involves allegations of purchasing an expensive jewellery set gifted to former PM Imran Khan by the Saudi crown prince in 2021.
