CTD Kills 3 Daesh Militants in Mastung Operation

Pakistan’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has intensified its crackdown against terrorist networks, killing three Daesh-linked militants in a fierce gun battle near Mastung in Balochistan. The operation, launched in response to rising terror incidents across the province, thwarted a major terror plot and exposed a network involved in child abduction, extortion, and targeted killings.

According to a CTD spokesperson, the operation targeted a “high-value suspect”, already in custody, who was guiding officials to a Daesh hideout in Mastung’s Dasht area.

“The suspect was involved in a brutal kidnapping-for-ransom case where a minor was killed in captivity after the ransom demand was not fulfilled,” the statement said.
“He was also linked with an operational Daesh cell, facilitating terror funding and logistics across the province.”

🔸 Fierce Shootout, Terror Plot Foiled

As the suspect led officials to the hideout, his armed accomplices launched a sudden attack to rescue him. In the resulting shootout, the suspect was killed — accidentally shot by his own group amid the chaos — while two other militants were neutralised on the spot by CTD forces.

Recovered from the scene were weapons, explosives, communication devices, and extremist materials, indicating the group’s active planning for future attacks. The CTD confirmed that this particular Daesh cell was deeply involved in:

·       Targeted killings

·       Extortion through kidnapping

·       Funding militant operations via ransom demands

🔸 Nationwide Counterterrorism Push

The incident comes amid a spike in terrorist activity, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, following the TTP’s termination of its ceasefire with the government in late 2022.

Pakistan recently ranked second on the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with a staggering 45% increase in terror-related deaths, rising to 1,081 fatalities in the past year.

Just days earlier, a DSP and a constable of Balochistan Constabulary were martyred in a deadly ambush on the National Highway in Mastung, highlighting the urgent need for robust security measures.

🔸 Ongoing Crackdown

The CTD has vowed to continue its offensive. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the CTD police station in Quetta, and further raids are planned across Dasht and Spilinji to apprehend the remaining members of the terror cell.

In recent weeks, security forces have also killed:

·       5 terrorists in Duki district (joint CTD operation)

·       4 terrorists in Kalat district

These developments reflect the government’s resolve to combat terrorism through aggressive intelligence-led operations, despite growing threats in the region.
