Defense Minister Khawaja Asif Criticizes PTI for Repeat Tactics Ahead of SCO Summit

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has expressed strong criticism of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, stating that their recent protests mirror the same conspiratorial tactics used during the 2014 sit-in, which coincided with the visit of the Chinese President. Speaking to media representatives on Saturday, Asif remarked on the armed groups threatening the nation's dignity, suggesting that elements from neighboring countries are also involved in these efforts.

The Defense Minister raised concerns over the invitation extended to Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar to join the protests, questioning the motives behind such an invitation. "This is the only party doubting its Pakistaniness," he asserted, urging PTI to conduct their discussions in Delhi rather than in Pakistan.

Asif also addressed the recent tragic loss of lives, noting that a lieutenant colonel and five soldiers were martyred in a violent confrontation. He underscored the seriousness of the situation, stating that the current protests are seen as a direct attack on Pakistan, particularly ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

In parallel, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar reinforced the government's position on security, assuring the public that no disruptive activities would be tolerated near the red zone during the SCO meeting. Tarar criticized the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, alleging that he is misusing state resources for personal agendas and warned against the sabotage of the SCO summit.

Tarar emphasized the significance of the SCO summit, highlighting the importance of maintaining a positive image of Pakistan as it hosts leaders from 12 nations for the first time in decades. He criticized past sit-ins, referencing their detrimental impact on the country's development and the delays caused in critical investments, such as the $64 billion package from China, which was postponed due to protests in 2014.

The Federal Minister also responded to PTI spokesperson Barrister Saif's remarks about the ongoing protests, accusing them of inciting unrest by inviting foreign officials to participate in local demonstrations. Tarar urged that efforts to disrupt public peace would not be tolerated, reiterating that security forces are prepared to maintain order during this crucial period.

As the SCO summit approaches, the government's commitment to ensuring a peaceful and productive environment in Islamabad is evident, as officials remain vigilant against any attempts to incite violence or disorder.
