Islamabad, Pakistan: The Election Commission of Pakistan has initiated proceedings against members of the Parliament and Provincial Assemblies who have failed to submit their annual returns and asset details. The Commission has set a firm deadline of January 15, warning that the membership of non-compliant members will be suspended.
Among those who have not submitted their asset details are prominent political figures such as Fazlur Rehman, Atta Tarar, Aleem Khan, Khursheed Shah, Farooq Sattar, Mahmood Achakzai, Aimal Wali, Yousaf Raza Gilani, Maryam Aurangzeb, and Sarfaraz Bugti.
The Election Commission revealed that by December 31, 2024, 23 members of the Senate and 116 members of the National Assembly had failed to submit their asset returns. Similarly, 208 members of the Punjab Assembly, 55 members of the Sindh Assembly, 91 members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, and 25 members of the Balochistan Assembly have yet to comply.
