Fazlur Rehman Says Establishment Not Enemy, Criticism Is Democratic Right

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has clarified that his party does not consider the establishment or bureaucracy as enemies, emphasizing that pointing out the mistakes of institutions and rulers is a democratic and constitutional right.

Addressing the Dastar Fazal Conference in Sukkur, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that loyalty to Pakistan should never be questioned and stressed that JUI has always stood for the country’s stability and integrity. “Our friendship and loyalty with Pakistan should be acknowledged. We do not believe in appeasement politics and will always speak the truth,” he stated.

The JUI chief said that criticizing policies or actions of any institution does not mean hostility. “Calling a mistake a mistake is our democratic right. No ruler or institution is above accountability,” he added.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman also highlighted the importance of religious education, stating that religious seminaries are a vital part of society. He said JUI would continue its struggle for the establishment and protection of religious schools across the country.

Criticizing the ruling elite, he said that Pakistan’s rulers often adopt Western thinking without fully understanding it. “Instead of blindly following America and the West, our rulers should follow Islamic principles,” he said, adding that Islam provides a complete code of life and governance.

He further said that religious institutions should be strengthened, not sidelined, and urged policymakers to respect the role of madrassas in education and moral development.

The conference was attended by a large number of religious scholars, party workers and supporters, who reaffirmed their commitment to JUI’s political and religious struggle.
