A Frontier Corps (FC) official was martyred, and 13 others were injured when security forces successfully foiled a coordinated terrorist attack in Zhob’s Sabakzai area, officials said.
According to Zhob Assistant Commissioner Naveed Alam, the attack was launched on the Joint Response Centre at 3:40am by terrorists from three directions. Security forces responded promptly and thwarted the assault before major damage could be inflicted.
"One of the attackers, a suicide bomber, was killed before he could enter the building," said Alam. At the time, the building housed 45 FC personnel, 10 Levies, and five soldiers. Unfortunately, during the exchange of fire, Havaldar Jam Sher was martyred, while 13 others, including two civilians, were injured.
The military's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), later confirmed the neutralization of two terrorists, including a high-value target, Umar, known as Umari, involved in several attacks on security forces and civilians. A sanitization operation continues in the area to neutralize any remaining threats.
The security situation in Balochistan has been under pressure in recent months. Last month, an officer of the Balochistan Anti-Terrorist Force was martyred in an attack along the Zhob-Dera Ismail Khan highway. Despite these challenges, security forces remain resolute in protecting the peace and stability of the region.
A report by the Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS) highlighted a 24% decline in terrorist attacks across Pakistan in September 2024, with 45 attacks reported nationwide. Balochistan saw 17 attacks, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bore the brunt with 27 incidents. Security forces continue to fight against the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Islamic State-Khorasan, and other militant groups determined to disrupt peace.
As Pakistan faces these ongoing threats, the sacrifices of its brave soldiers serve as a reminder of the resolve to maintain stability in the region.
