A tragic attack on a convoy of vehicles traveling to Parachinar has resulted in the death of four individuals, including two security personnel and two drivers. Several others were injured in the assault, which also involved the looting of goods vehicles carrying essential food and beverages.

Details of the Attack

The incident occurred near Bagan, in Lower Kurram, where a convoy of 35 vehicles was heading towards Parachinar. The convoy was attacked by 20 unknown assailants who used small and large weapons in their assault. Two security personnel and two drivers were martyred, and four other officials sustained injuries during the firing. In addition to the deaths and injuries, the attackers set fire to several vehicles and kidnapped eight drivers.

According to CTD officials, a case has been registered at the CTD Kurram police station. The FIR includes several sections, including those under anti-terrorism laws. The attackers' identities remain unknown, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.

Previous Attack and Rising Tensions in Kurram Agency

This incident is part of a larger pattern of violence in the region. Earlier, the vehicle of Deputy Commissioner Kohat, Javedullah Mehsud, was also fired upon in Bagan. The attack caused serious injuries to the DC, along with FC and police personnel, as he had been visiting the area to restore roads for a convoy of relief supplies.

In late 2024, the region experienced a significant escalation in violence, with 44 people killed in a firing incident on a passenger bus in Parachinar. This was followed by armed tribal clashes and more fatalities in different parts of Kurram Agency. These clashes led to road closures and protests, creating a shortage of food and medical supplies. Emergency relief was sent to Parachinar via a federal cabinet helicopter.

Impact on Parachinar and Relief Efforts

The road closures have severely impacted the daily lives of residents in Kurram Agency, especially in Parachinar, where essential supplies have become scarce. The recent violence has further exacerbated the situation, prompting authorities to expedite relief efforts.

CTD Investigation and Response

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) is investigating the case, with a focus on identifying the attackers and understanding the motives behind the attack. The CTD is also looking into the broader security situation in the area to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of convoys traveling through Kurram Agency.
