Four soldiers of the Pakistan Army were martyred, and 15 terrorists were killed in two separate intelligence-based operations (IBOs) conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported.
First Operation – Dera Ismail Khan
The first operation took place in the Hathala area of Dera Ismail Khan, where security forces, acting on credible intelligence, engaged terrorists at their hideout. As a result, nine terrorists were killed, including high-value targets identified as:
- Farman alias Saqib
- Kharji Amanullah alias Toori
- Kharji Saeed alias Liaqat
- Kharji Bilal
These militants were allegedly involved in multiple terrorist activities in the region and were on law enforcement's most-wanted list.
Second Operation – North Waziristan
The second IBO was carried out in Miranshah, North Waziristan, where security forces neutralized six more terrorists. During an intense exchange of fire, four Pakistani soldiers embraced martyrdom:
- Lt. Muhammad Hassaan Arshaf (21) – Lahore
- Naib Subedar Muhammad Bilal (39) – Dera Ismail Khan
- Sepoy Farhat Ullah (27) – Lakki Marwat
- Sepoy Himat Khan (29) – Mohmand
The ISPR praised the bravery of these soldiers, especially Lt. Arshaf, who led his troops from the front.
Ongoing Operations
Following the encounters, sanitisation operations are underway to clear the areas of any remaining terrorist elements.
Rising Terror Concerns
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist activities, particularly in KP and Balochistan, after the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended a ceasefire in 2022.
According to the Centre for Research and Security Studies, 2024 was the deadliest year in the past decade for Pakistan's security forces, with 685 personnel martyred in 444 attacks.
The ISPR reiterated its commitment to eradicating terrorism, stating, "Such sacrifices of our brave men further strengthen our resolve."
