Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has emphasized that terrorism in Pakistan is not an internal issue but a result of foreign conspiracies. He made this statement during a meeting with French Ambassador Nicolas Galli at the Chief Minister’s House, where bilateral relations and investment opportunities were discussed.
Economic Recovery and Development Projects
The Chief Minister highlighted that Pakistan's economy is showing signs of recovery, which will positively impact the entire nation. He noted that the economic challenges of the past year had adversely affected development programs. However, the situation is improving, allowing various projects to gain momentum.
He provided updates on flood rehabilitation efforts, stating that the construction of 2.1 million houses for flood victims is progressing rapidly. Additionally, agricultural lands and irrigation systems have been restored to support farming activities.
Taxation on Agriculture
Murad Ali Shah addressed the IMF's demand for additional agricultural taxes, revealing that the agricultural tax in Sindh has already been increased from 15 percent to 45 percent. He expressed concern that this increase would impose a heavy burden on farmers.
Law and Order Situation
The Chief Minister asserted that Sindh's law and order situation is stable, making it an attractive destination for investors.
Investment Opportunities and French Interest
Highlighting the government's achievements under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, the Chief Minister extended investment offers to French companies, particularly in the water desalination sector.
French Ambassador Nicolas Galli expressed interest in the investment opportunities and invited the Chief Minister to participate in the upcoming UN Ocean Conference starting on June 6.
The Chief Minister provided a list of ongoing and potential projects to the ambassador to further enhance collaboration between Sindh and French companies.
As Sindh continues its efforts to rebuild and develop, the government's focus on maintaining law and order and attracting foreign investment will be key to sustained progress.
