Iran, China, and Russia to Conduct Joint Naval Exercises Amid Rising US Tensions

Iran has announced that it will conduct joint naval exercises with China and Russia in the northern Indian Ocean at the end of February, marking another development in an increasingly tense regional environment. The exercises, dubbed “Maritime Security Belt,” were initiated by Iran in 2019 and have been held seven times so far.

According to Iranian state media, the aim of the exercises is to strengthen the security of global maritime trade. Participating navies will cooperate in anti-piracy operations, countering maritime terrorism, and conducting emergency rescue missions at sea.

The announcement comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, as the US fleet has been deployed near the region. US President Donald Trump has warned that if Iran refuses to negotiate, the US could take military action more severe than previous operations.

Iran, however, has rejected US pressure, asserting that meaningful negotiations require fairness and mutual respect. Iranian officials have also stressed that any attack on the country or its allies would be met with a swift and strong response.

These joint exercises underscore the growing strategic cooperation between Iran, China, and Russia, particularly in the context of increasing US military presence in the region. Analysts suggest that such maneuvers signal a unified stance on maritime security and a deterrent against potential military aggression.
