The Federal Capital’s Banking Court on Monday directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to complete the challan in the foreign funding case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan within two days.
The hearing, presided over by Banking Court Judge Abdul Ghafoor Kakar, saw the court question why the FIA has yet to finalize the challan, despite the case being under trial since 2022. Special Prosecutor Wasiq Malik informed the court that delays have occurred due to letters being sent to seek opinions from foreign authorities.
The court expressed strong dissatisfaction with the explanation, emphasizing that proper attention has not been given to the case. It warned that if the challan is not completed within two days, a show cause notice could be issued to the investigating officer, and the FIA Director-General may be summoned.
During the hearing, Wasiq Malik requested an extension of one week to ten days to finalize the challan, asking that no show cause notices be issued for the time being. The court considered the request and adjourned the hearing until February 4.
The foreign funding case has been one of the high-profile legal matters involving PTI, with significant political and public interest in its proceedings.
