The Bara Political Alliance has called for the immediate restoration of peace in the Tirah Valley, emphasizing that the region’s problems affect all communities collectively and cannot be delayed further.
The demand was made during a Jirga convened by the alliance, attended by tribal elders and local representatives. The alliance condemned ongoing violence in Tirah, including shelling, firing, mortar attacks on homes, and the use of quadcopters by Khawarij militants, which it said has caused widespread fear among residents.
The alliance urged that all prior promises and agreements to the victims be formally recognized and implemented, while political interference and corruption in the victim registration process be investigated, holding responsible parties accountable.
It also called for the registration of property owners in Tirah under IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) status and for all affected families to be included in the relief packages.
The statement highlighted that law and order in Upper Bara and Bara Plain areas remains a serious concern. The alliance announced a peace movement beginning immediately in Bara and demanded that the provincial government take responsibility to stop kidnappings for ransom, curb threatening calls, and ensure civilian protection.
Haji Shireen Afridi, former chairman of the Bara Political Alliance, said that the alliance had previously held two jirgas with the Khawarij and later handed over the responsibility to the provincial government and local elders.
According to security sources, representatives from Tirah were summoned to the Jirga at the request of tribal elders to discuss and address ongoing security and humanitarian concerns.
The Bara Political Alliance reiterated its commitment to supporting the victims of Tirah and vowed to continue advocating for their rights until all grievances are addressed.
