A man whose wife and daughter died after falling into a sewer line near Bhati Gate has alleged that police tortured him and pressured him to confess to their deaths.
Ghulam Murtaza said that when he went to report the incident, he was taken into custody by police officers, including SP Bilal and SHO Zain. “They tortured me. There was no fight with my wife; we were out for a walk. I saw both of them fall with my own eyes,” he said.
Ghulam Murtaza further alleged that the officers repeatedly accused him of killing his wife and daughter and even arrested his cousin, Tanveer, along with him. He said his mobile phone was confiscated during the interrogation.
The incident reportedly occurred near Data Darbar in the Bhati Gate area of Lahore. Initially, police and other agencies denied the occurrence of the incident, calling the reports false. However, after approximately 10 hours, the bodies of the woman and her daughter were recovered from a location about 3 kilometers away.
The tragic case has raised concerns about police conduct, accountability, and emergency response procedures in Lahore. Authorities have yet to comment on the allegations of torture.
