Prominent religious scholar and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leader Maulana Sultan has died after sustaining serious injuries in a blast in Wana, South Waziristan. Family sources confirmed that he passed away at Mufti Mahmood Hospital in Dera Ismail Khan.
According to police, Maulana Sultan was critically injured when an explosion occurred near a madrasa in the Konra China area of Wana, while he was returning home. He was immediately shifted to Dera Ismail Khan for treatment, but could not survive.
Maulana Sultan was a key figure in Waziristan, serving as the leader of JUI Waziristan and head of the Waziristan Wafaq Madaris, and was widely respected as a religious scholar in the region.
Reacting to the news, Ameer JUI-Pakistan Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed profound grief over the martyrdom. He prayed for Allah’s mercy on the deceased and called for an immediate investigation into the incident, demanding that the perpetrators be brought to justice.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman also highlighted the increasing security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, criticising the state for failing to ensure the safety of its citizens. He extended condolences to Maulana Sultan’s family, followers, students, and the local community, praying for patience and strength for them in this difficult time.
The incident underscores the persistent threat of terrorism in the region and raises concerns over the protection of religious leaders and civilians in conflict-affected areas.
