King Abdullah II Begins Two-Day Visit to Pakistan, Strengthens Bilateral Ties

Jordan’s King Abdullah II arrived in Pakistan on Saturday for a two-day state visit aimed at deepening the longstanding relationship between the two nations. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari warmly received the monarch upon his arrival at the Nur Khan Airbase, marking the beginning of high-level engagements between the two countries.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari were also present to welcome the Jordanian king and his delegation, underscoring the significance of the visit for Pakistan’s political leadership.

According to a statement shared by state broadcaster PTV News on X, King Abdullah’s visit is reflective of the “longstanding fraternal relations” between Pakistan and Jordan. It added that the trip is expected to further enhance cooperation in political, economic and cultural spheres.

The king is scheduled to hold a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, followed by delegation-level talks aimed at expanding the scope of bilateral engagement. “This visit of King Abdullah II will further solidify the longstanding relations between Pakistan and Jordan and will prove instrumental in expanding the scope of bilateral cooperation between the two brotherly countries,” the statement said.

Upon his arrival at the Prime Minister’s House later in the day, King Abdullah II was presented with a guard of honour, a traditional gesture reserved for visiting dignitaries.

The Jordanian monarch last visited Pakistan during the tenure of former president Mamnoon Hussain, during which the two countries signed two memoranda of understanding — one on cooperation in civil protection and defence, and another on housing sector collaboration.

Just last month, King Abdullah praised Pakistan’s military for its contributions to regional peace and security during a meeting with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir in Jordan. The interaction took place during the army chief’s official visit, which was also attended by Jordan’s Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II.

The current visit is expected to pave the way for enhanced security cooperation, increased trade prospects and strengthened diplomatic coordination between Islamabad and Amman, further reinforcing the brotherly bond rooted in mutual respect and shared regional interests.
