KP Government Announces Province-Wide Pen-Down Strike Against Federal Government

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced a province-wide pen-down strike against the federal government, citing what it describes as discriminatory treatment of the province.

According to KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, the federal government has not been treating the province fairly, particularly in matters related to the National Finance Commission (NFC) award, as well as electricity and gas allocations. He alleged that these issues reflect systemic financial and administrative injustice towards KP.

Afridi further stated that the provincial government is also concerned about the situation of PTI founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, claiming they are not being provided proper medical facilities or access to family and legal representatives, which he termed unlawful.

The KP government clarified that emergency services will remain exempt from the strike. Meanwhile, the chief minister appealed to lawyers and civil society to actively participate in the protest while ensuring compliance with constitutional and legal frameworks.

The announcement adds further strain to already tense federal-provincial relations, particularly over resource distribution and governance issues.
