The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to withdraw cases filed against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members and workers during the caretaker government period, particularly those related to the May 9 and 10 incidents.
According to official sources, numerous PTI leaders and workers were booked in connection with the unrest on May 9–10. The Advocate General’s Office has formally sent recommendations to withdraw 51 remaining cases, out of a total of 319 cases registered during that period.
Authorities note that convictions in these cases could lead to possible disqualification of assembly members. The withdrawal process will begin after the provincial cabinet’s approval, after which the state will formally withdraw its claims in court.
Speaking to Geo News, Advocate General KP Shah Faisal Atmankhel confirmed that recommendations for the withdrawal have been finalized and forwarded to the government. He added that the final decision rests with the KP cabinet, which will review and approve the proposal.
Atmankhel stated that while 319 cases were originally registered against PTI members and workers, only 51 cases remain to be withdrawn under the latest recommendations.
