Lahore Court Grants Pre-Arrest Bail to Rajab Butt, Nadeem Mubarak

A Lahore district and sessions court on Monday granted interim pre-arrest bail to YouTuber Rajab Butt and TikToker Nadeem Mubarak in cases related to the alleged promotion of gambling applications on social media platforms.

The cases were registered by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), which has launched action against several social media influencers accused of promoting and encouraging gambling apps in violation of cybercrime laws.

Both Rajab Butt and Nadeem Mubarak appeared before Additional District and Sessions Judge Mansoor Ahmed Qureshi, where their counsel informed the court that the influencers were willing to join the investigation to establish their innocence. Accepting the plea, the court granted interim pre-arrest bail and restrained the NCCIA from arresting them until January 6. The judge also directed both suspects to fully cooperate with investigators and join the probe before the next hearing.

The development follows an earlier order by the Islamabad High Court, which had granted the two influencers 10-day protective bail after their relatives filed petitions upon arriving in Pakistan from London on December 10. Following that relief, Butt and Mubarak approached the Lahore sessions court and filed separate bail applications.

According to official records, both individuals are nominated in multiple FIRs registered under various cybercrime provisions. The allegations include promoting or operating gambling applications, misuse of digital platforms, and online harassment. Investigations were previously delayed due to their stay abroad, despite the FIA issuing multiple notices.

In September, Rajab Butt was booked by the NCCIA for allegedly promoting online gambling applications through his social media accounts. Nadeem Mubarak was also booked in a similar case and was additionally arrested the same month for displaying a fake vehicle registration number, “IK-804,” on his car. Police sources said the number allegedly referred to the prisoner identification number associated with jailed PTI founder Imran Khan, and Mubarak failed to provide a satisfactory explanation when questioned.

Rajab Butt has faced several other legal controversies in recent years. In March, he was booked under blasphemy and cybercrime laws following public outrage over the launch of his perfume brand named “295,” a reference to Pakistan’s blasphemy law under the Pakistan Penal Code. Authorities alleged the branding caused religious unrest.

Earlier, in December last year, Butt was arrested for illegally keeping a lion cub and possessing weapons at his residence. He later pleaded guilty to owning an undocumented wild animal and avoided imprisonment in January this year after promising the court he would post animal rights awareness videos for a year.

The court will resume hearing the pre-arrest bail petitions on January 6, while the NCCIA continues its investigation into the alleged promotion of gambling applications.
