Mansehra police gunned down two Afghan nationals involved in a child kidnapping case and safely rescued the abducted two-and-a-half-year-old child and a woman.
According to police officials, a resident of Kohistan Colony filed a kidnapping report on June 5 at the Balakot police station, stating that her young son and brother-in-law had gone missing. The woman told police that her husband’s sister had taken the child with her but never returned.
Soon after, the child’s father — currently residing in Dubai — received a ransom demand of Rs 30 million from unidentified callers.
Acting swiftly, police traced the suspects to the Damgla area, where the kidnappers had called the victim’s family to deliver the ransom. As law enforcement surrounded the area, the suspects opened fire. In retaliatory firing, two kidnappers were killed on the spot.
The child and woman were recovered unharmed and safely returned to their family.
Police have confirmed that the deceased suspects were Afghan nationals, and further investigations are underway to determine the extent of the kidnapping network.
