Nawaz Sharif Hails PML-N Victory, Criticizes Imran Khan and Previous Government

Former Prime Minister and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif addressed newly elected members of the National and Provincial Assemblies on Wednesday, praising their victory in Lahore by-elections and highlighting his party’s performance in governance.

Speaking to the assembly members, Nawaz congratulated them and said, “By the grace of Allah, lies, abuse, rudeness, indecency and sedition have been defeated.” He emphasized that the public voted for the PML-N based on performance, while those who boycotted the elections “lost by participating in the elections themselves.”

Criticism of Previous Government

Nawaz Sharif criticized the previous government, asserting that it had failed to launch any development projects and had spread a “culture of indecency.” He added that foreign affairs had suffered, merit had been ignored, and the country had been pushed to the brink of bankruptcy.

“If the pace of development had continued, we would have a place in the world today,” he said, highlighting the PML-N’s historical record of initiating projects for Pakistan’s development.

Governance and Achievements

The PML-N President noted that the current government is prioritizing merit, reducing inflation, and safeguarding Pakistan from default. “Punjab and federal governments are working hard day and night. In one and a half years, we have set a record of public service and saved Pakistan from moral and social bankruptcy,” Nawaz said.

He also highlighted social welfare initiatives in Punjab, including the construction of 120,000 houses for the poor, free healthcare services, new hospitals, and green bus services in every district. Nawaz claimed that law and order in Punjab has significantly improved under PML-N governance.

Remarks on Imran Khan

Nawaz Sharif criticized Imran Khan, stating that he is “not the only culprit” and that those who supported him are equally responsible. He added, “Those who call others thieves and robbers have themselves proven to be thieves. Which nation develops in an environment of sedition, riots, arson and siege?”

By-Election Results

The by-elections held on Sunday saw the PML-N win all six contested National Assembly seats and six out of seven Provincial Assembly seats in Lahore, marking a significant victory for the party.
