Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Bahrain’s capital, Manama, on Wednesday for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and advancing strategic cooperation between the two countries.
According to Pakistan Television (PTV), the prime minister received a warm reception at Manama Airport from Bahrain’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani and other senior members of the Bahraini leadership.
The prime minister is accompanied by a high-level delegation including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Minister of State for Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani and other senior officials.
During his November 26–27 visit, PM Shehbaz will hold a series of high-level engagements with the Bahraini leadership. Scheduled meetings include discussions with Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Deputy PM Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa.
State media said the visit underscores the longstanding and cordial ties between Pakistan and Bahrain and reflects the shared desire to elevate these relations into a more strategic and results-oriented partnership. It added that the engagements would help chart new avenues of collaboration and further deepen people-to-people connections, contributing to mutually beneficial cooperation.
Relations between the two nations have seen increased momentum in recent months. Last month, Pakistan and Bahrain agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation during the inaugural meeting of the Pakistan–Bahrain Parliamentary Friendship Group. Both sides decided to form a joint working group to expand collaboration in counter-narcotics, counterterrorism, coastguard operations, border security, immigration and police training. They also agreed to pursue memoranda of understanding on extradition, mutual legal assistance and specialised battalion training.
In September, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s meeting with his Bahraini counterpart, Gen Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, also resulted in agreements to broaden cooperation in counterterrorism, anti-narcotics operations and immigration management.
PM Shehbaz’s current visit is expected to reinforce these ongoing initiatives while exploring new avenues of economic, security and institutional collaboration.
