Over 30 Earthquake Tremors Recorded in Karachi Since June 1, Says Met Office

Residents of Karachi experienced fresh earthquake tremors early Friday morning, sparking concern as the city has now recorded 32 minor earthquakes since the beginning of June.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the first tremor today was felt at 4:46 am, with a magnitude of 2.7, a depth of 2 kilometers, and its epicenter 20 kilometers south of Defence. This was followed by a second tremor at 7:58 am, measuring 1.8 in magnitude, with a depth of 8 kilometers, centered 7 kilometers northwest of Malir.

A third, milder tremor was recorded at 8:32 am, with a magnitude of 1.5.

Chief Meteorologist Amir Haider Leghari confirmed that 32 tremors have been recorded in the city since June 1, ranging in magnitude from 1.5 to 3.6. The depths have varied significantly—from shallow quakes just 2 kilometers below the surface to deeper ones at 188 kilometers.

The tremors have been felt across various parts of the city, including DHA, Malir, Quaidabad, Gadap, and Korangi.

“All recorded tremors are of moderate to low intensity. While there is no immediate threat, we are closely monitoring the seismic activity,” Leghari assured.

No damage or casualties have been reported so far. Authorities are advising citizens not to panic but to remain alert and follow standard safety protocols in case of aftershocks.

The rising frequency of tremors in such a short period has prompted discussions among experts about whether Karachi may be entering a more active seismic phase. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed through official channels.
