PAF Wins Top Honours at UK’s RIAT 2025 with JF-17 and C-130

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) proudly claimed top honors at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) 2025, one of the world’s largest military airshows, held at the Royal Air Force Base in Fairford, United Kingdom.

According to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), PAF’s state-of-the-art JF-17 Thunder Block-III and the C-130 Hercules transport aircraft dazzled international audiences and judges alike, securing two of the event's most prestigious awards.

The JF-17 Block-III fighter jet, known for its cutting-edge technology and sleek design, won the "Spirit of the Meet Trophy". The award was presented for its striking livery and an impressive non-stop transcontinental flight from Pakistan to the UK, which was made possible through successful air-to-air refueling operations carried out with support from a PAF IL-78 tanker.

The C-130H Hercules, a long-serving workhorse of the PAF, was awarded the "Concours d’Elegance Trophy", highlighting its technical performance and superior flying skills.

“These awards were given in recognition of the aircrafts’ excellent flying and technical skills,” the ISPR noted, adding that the JF-17C Block III represents Pakistan’s most advanced defense aviation capabilities.

“This success has honoured Pakistan’s aviation sector on an international level,” the military's media wing stated, calling the achievement a “testament to the recognition of the capabilities of the Pakistan Air Force.”

The RIAT, held annually since the 1970s, is a celebrated platform that brings together cutting-edge aircraft and air forces from around the globe, raising funds for the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust. This year’s event, running from July 18 to 20, has attracted participants from over 30 countries.

Combat Proven and Globally Recognized

The JF-17 Thunder's presence at RIAT has generated heightened interest, especially in the wake of the Pakistan-India aerial conflict, which marked one of the largest air-to-air engagements in South Asia in decades. During the 2024 skirmish, the Kamra-based 15 Squadron of PAF was credited with shooting down Indian jets in response to cross-border strikes — a moment that cemented the JF-17’s combat credibility.

“There is a palpable sense of enthusiasm across the United Kingdom following the recent Pakistan-India conflict, as aviation enthusiasts and defence observers were eagerly looking forward to the arrival of the JF-17 Thunder Block-III,” ISPR remarked.

The aircraft’s operational excellence and combat-proven history have earned it significant respect in global aerospace and defense circles, making its RIAT appearance one of the most anticipated highlights of the year.

As the PAF continues to modernize and demonstrate its capabilities on the world stage, this achievement at RIAT 2025 underscores Pakistan’s growing stature in aviation and defense technology.
