During a two-day state visit to Pakistan, Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif affirmed a “zero-tolerance” stance on the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza in the aftermath of Israel’s recent military onslaught.

The two leaders held a bilateral meeting at the PM House, where they discussed strengthening coordination among the eight Arab-Islamic countries collaborating with the United States on the Gaza ceasefire and the Gaza Peace Plan signed in Sharm el Sheikh. A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office highlighted their unified position on protecting Palestinian rights and addressing post-war challenges in Gaza.

King Abdullah II praised Pakistan’s consistent support for Jordan’s role in regional stability and humanitarian efforts during and after the Gaza conflict. The discussions also covered bilateral relations, with both sides exploring enhanced cooperation in economic, trade, investment, health, science and technology, education, and defence sectors.

“Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing strategic and economic ties between Pakistan and Jordan, as well as expanding mutually beneficial collaboration at regional and international fora,” the statement added.

The meeting included a ceremonial exchange of memorandums of understanding in media, culture, and education, followed by a banquet hosted by PM Shehbaz in honour of the king and his delegation. Senior government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar, and Climate Change Minister Musaddiq Malik, were also present.

King Abdullah II was warmly received at Nur Khan Airbase by PM Shehbaz, President Asif Ali Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, and First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari. President Zardari described the visit as an opportunity to give Pakistan–Jordan relations a new strategic dimension, built on historical brotherhood, mutual trust, and shared values.

A Pakistan Air Force formation of JF-17 Thunder aircraft provided a protective escort as the king’s aircraft entered Pakistani airspace. The Jordanian monarch last visited Pakistan at the invitation of former President Mamnoon Hussain, during which two memorandums of understanding were signed for cooperation in civil protection, defence, and housing.

The visit underscores Pakistan and Jordan’s commitment to regional peace, humanitarian cooperation, and expanding bilateral engagement across multiple sectors.
