The Prime Minister’s Inspection Commission has intervened in the long-stalled Nai Gaj Dam project in Dadu district, Sindh, directing authorities to resume construction immediately after work had been halted for eight months.
A formal letter sent by the commission to the Sindh Chief Secretary expressed serious concern over the prolonged suspension and emphasized the need for urgent action. The commission has instructed WAPDA to remove all obstacles and ensure that construction work recommences without further delay.
Inquiry and Accountability
The commission has also demanded that an inquiry report be submitted within one week to identify those responsible for the delays. Officials highlighted that non-payment of dues to private owners and contractors was the primary reason for the halt in construction.
Expressing strong displeasure, the commission directed the Commissioner Hyderabad and Deputy Commissioner Dadu to expedite the payment process to private owners immediately. The contractor overseeing the project confirmed that the suspension was caused by the non-receipt of confirmed payments, leading to an eight-month halt in work.
Significance of the Project
The Nai Gaj Dam is a critical water and power infrastructure project for Sindh, aimed at irrigation, flood control, and water supply. The resumption of work is expected to not only secure the project’s timeline but also ensure benefits for the local population once completed.
With the Prime Minister’s Inspection Commission taking notice, authorities have been urged to act swiftly, prevent further delays, and hold responsible parties accountable for impeding a project of national importance.
