PPP Workers Protest Across Sindh Against Indus Canal Extraction

Pakistan People's Party (PPP) workers held demonstrations in various cities across Sindh to protest against the extraction of six canals from the Indus River, warning that the move could lead to severe water shortages in the province.

According to Geo News, protests erupted in multiple cities, including Larkana, Badin, Nawabshah, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Kandhkot, Naushahro Feroze, Tharparkar, and Jamshoro. The protests were attended by district party leaders, members of the Sindh Assembly, and local activists.

Nationalist organizations have also voiced their opposition to the canal extraction project. The Awami Tehreek staged a protest in Naushahro Feroze, condemning the move and labeling it a "conspiracy to make Sindh barren."

Protesters chanted slogans against the decision, expressing fears that diverting water from the Indus River would have devastating effects on agriculture and livelihoods in Sindh. They called on the federal government to reconsider the project and ensure equitable water distribution.

The issue of water rights has long been a sensitive topic in Sindh, with political and nationalist parties frequently voicing concerns over what they claim is an unfair distribution of water resources. The ongoing protests indicate strong opposition to the project, with more demonstrations expected in the coming days.
