POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said on Monday that a crucial meeting of the party’s parliamentary party was held at the Punjab Assembly, where detailed discussions took place on the party’s future strategy and political course of action.
Speaking to the media outside the Punjab Assembly, Salman Akram Raja said that February 8 would be marked as a significant day to remind those who had allegedly “robbed the mandate” of the people.
“If democracy is to survive in this country, the nation will have to come out on February 8,” he said.
The PTI leader stated that some planners were claiming that what happened in 2024 would be repeated in 2029, but stressed that the party would not accept such outcomes.
“We will come to power through the people’s vote,” he asserted.
He further announced that PTI had decided to begin mobilising its voters and supporters from now onwards, with February 8 serving as a turning point.
“This struggle is for the freedom of PTI, the judiciary and the rights of the people. Every individual will have to play their role in this fight,” Salman Akram Raja said.
Criticising the government’s economic performance, he said that claims of economic improvement over the past three years were false.
“Industries are shutting down, people are losing jobs and investors are leaving the country,” he remarked.
He added that there was no respect for the law or the people’s vote in Pakistan, and vowed that every street would raise its voice in defence of democratic rights.
Commenting on the alleged attack on Opposition Leader Moin Riaz Qureshi and the Rs84 million compensation case, the PTI secretary general said such actions were aimed at silencing opposition voices.
“Politics should be answered with politics, and false cases should be withdrawn,” he demanded.
Concluding his remarks, Salman Akram Raja said that the nation would be fully mobilised by February 8 and beyond.
“The people themselves will bring about change, and Lahore will give a strong response to this fascism,” he added.
