PTI Raises Concerns Over Imran Khan’s Health, Criticizes Govt Policies

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sheikh Waqas Akram on Wednesday expressed deep concern over the health and well-being of PTI founder Imran Khan, stating that no credible information is being provided to his legal team or party members.

Speaking alongside Shaukat Yousafzai, Sheikh Waqas Akram said that almost 50 days have passed since the last meeting with Imran Khan, despite a night-long sit-in organized to demand access. “No former prime minister in the history of the country has been treated like this in jail,” he remarked.

He criticized the authorities for denying meetings to the six lawyers nominated by the High Court, while appeals filed by Imran Khan have not been scheduled for hearing. He also demanded the immediate release of detained women party members.

Sheikh Waqas Akram further condemned the Sindh government over the Gul Plaza tragedy, questioning what the provincial authorities were doing while illegal shops were being constructed. He said, “This incident is a clear proof of the failure of the PPP’s 18-year rule.”

Rejecting allegations linking the party to terrorism, he clarified, “The PTI, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, and our people themselves are victims of terrorism. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan is and will remain a terrorist organization. We do not support accounts spreading hatred on social media.”

Shaukat Yousafzai criticized the federal government’s economic policies, alleging that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spends most of his time abroad, and that one lakh people have become unemployed due to the closure of 144 factories in Punjab. He said, “The entire country is bearing the brunt of the wrong policies of the federal government, and claims of economic improvement are contrary to the ground realities.”
