In a major crackdown against terrorism, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab carried out extensive intelligence-based operations across multiple cities, resulting in the arrest of 49 terrorists, including an alleged agent of India’s intelligence agency, RAW.
According to CTD officials, the operations were conducted over a week based on actionable intelligence. The alleged Indian agent, identified as Mujtaba, was apprehended in Lahore. Authorities recovered explosives, weapons, and maps of key government and sensitive installations from his possession.
The CTD also seized materials for making suicide jackets and other explosives from other arrested suspects. Initial investigations suggest the detained terrorists were planning attacks aimed at creating fear and panic among the public.
Over the past month, the CTD carried out 6,131 combing operations across Punjab, detaining 599 suspects and questioning over 243,000 individuals. Operations spanned cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Toba Tek Singh, Hafizabad, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Faisalabad.
Authorities have stated that intelligence-based counter-terrorism operations will be further intensified in response to ongoing threats, with a focus on safeguarding the public. Citizens have been urged to report any suspicious activity immediately to help prevent potential attacks.
