Security forces killed at least 41 terrorists during intelligence-based operations (IBOs) carried out in Balochistan’s Harnai and Panjgur districts, the military’s media wing said on Friday.
According to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations were conducted on January 29 and targeted militants belonging to Fitna-al-Khawarij and Fitna-al-Hindustan.
Fitna-al-Khawarij is the term used by the state for terrorists affiliated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), while Fitna-al-Hindustan refers to Balochistan-based terrorist groups, a designation highlighting India’s alleged role in sponsoring terrorism and destabilisation activities in Pakistan.
ISPR said intelligence reports indicated the presence of Fitna-al-Khawarij terrorists on the outskirts of Harnai district, prompting security forces to launch an IBO in the area.
“During the conduct of the operation, own troops effectively engaged the hideout, and after an intense fire exchange, 30 India-sponsored khawarij were sent to hell,” the statement said.
The military’s media wing added that a large cache of ammunition and explosives was recovered from the terrorists and subsequently destroyed by security forces.
In a separate operation in Panjgur district, ISPR said security forces busted a terrorist hideout and neutralised 11 India-sponsored terrorists belonging to Fitna-al-Hindustan.
Weapons, ammunition and money looted during a bank robbery in Panjgur on December 15, 2025, were also recovered from the terrorists killed in the second operation, according to the statement.
“The terrorists were involved in numerous terrorist activities in the past,” ISPR said, adding that sanitisation operations were underway to eliminate any remaining militants in the area.
The military reiterated its resolve to continue counter-terrorism operations under the vision of Azm-i-Istehkam, approved by the federal apex committee on the National Action Plan.
“Relentless counter-terrorism campaign by security forces and law enforcement agencies of Pakistan will continue at full pace to wipe out the menace of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country,” the statement added.
Thursday’s operations came nearly two weeks after security forces killed 12 terrorists in Balochistan’s Kharan district, foiling an attempt to create a hostage situation during multiple engagements on January 15.
At the time, ISPR said that approximately 15 to 20 India-sponsored terrorists of Fitna-al-Hindustan had carried out attacks on the City Police Station, National Bank of Pakistan and Habib Bank Limited in Kharan, looting Rs3.4 million before being forced to retreat. Twelve terrorists were later killed during clearance operations.
More recently, on January 19, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) killed five suspected terrorists in an operation in the Dasht area of Mastung district. Officials said the suspects, affiliated with the banned Balochistan Liberation Army, were planning to block the Quetta-Sibi Highway and carry out subversive activities.
Pakistan continues to face persistent security challenges. Despite record militant deaths, the country witnessed a sharp rise in militant violence in 2025, with terrorist attacks increasing by 34 per cent and terrorism-related fatalities rising by 21 per cent year-on-year, according to a report by the Pak Institute for Peace Studies.
