The government of Sindh on Monday announced that all public and private educational institutions across the province will remain closed on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, in observance of Youm-i-Ali.
The decision was communicated through an official notification issued by the Sindh School Education and Literacy Department.
According to the notification, all public and private educational institutions operating under the administrative control of the department will observe a holiday on the occasion.
“…all public and private educational institutions under the administrative control of the School Education and Literacy Department, Government of Sindh, shall remain closed on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, as a holiday on account of Youm-i-Ali,” the notification stated.
Youm-i-Ali is observed annually to commemorate the martyrdom of Ali ibn Abi Talib, the fourth caliph of Islam and a central figure in Islamic history. Religious gatherings, processions and special prayers are held across the country on this day.
Ahead of the occasion, Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Chief Minister of Sindh, held a meeting last week with prominent Shia scholars to discuss security arrangements for upcoming religious events.
The meeting focused on ensuring comprehensive security measures for Youm-i-Ali, Youm Al Quds and Jumatul Wida, particularly in light of the current regional situation.
Officials and religious scholars reviewed administrative and security preparations and discussed ways to guide the public during the observances. The discussions also took place against the backdrop of the evolving regional tensions following recent attacks on Iran.
Authorities in Sindh have reiterated their commitment to ensuring peaceful observances and maintaining law and order during the upcoming religious events.
