The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province from May 27 to June 2 to safeguard public health and civic order during Eidul Azha. No Roadside Animal Sales or Canal Bathing: Punjab Restricts 'Public Nuisance' Activities for Eid Holidays

Punjab Imposes Section 144 Restrictions for Eidul Azha

To protect public health and maintain order, the Punjab Home Department has banned several activities across the province under Section 144. The restrictions will be in place for a week, running from May 27 to June 2.

The government issued these bans to tackle specific safety and environmental issues that typically pop up during the festive period:

Public Smoked Meat Preparation: Roasting animal heads and hooves by the roadside is prohibited. The government noted that this practice creates unpleasant odors and thick, unhealthy smoke in public areas

Improper Offal Disposal: Citizens are banned from throwing animal waste or entrails onto roads, into canals, or down sewage manholes. This rule aims to prevent severe sanitation issues and blocked drainage systems.

Canal and River Swimming: Swimming or bathing in lakes, rivers, dams, canals, and other waterways is entirely restricted during the holidays to prevent accidental drownings.

Illegal Cattle Markets: Selling or buying sacrificial animals outside of officially designated cattle markets is banned. Unregulated street setups in residential areas block traffic and help spread diseases

The official notification emphasizes that these activities disrupt daily public life and create unnecessary friction among citizens. Local authorities will enforce these measures throughout the holiday week to ensure a clean and peaceful festive environment.
