Karachi: The 16th Karachi Literature Festival came to a vibrant end, offering a platform for intellectual discourse on Sindh's ancient civilization, the poetry of Shah Latif, Sachal Sarmast, and Sami, as well as the pressing challenges faced by Karachi.

During a panel discussion, former federal minister Madad Ali Sindhi highlighted the lack of religious influence in Mohenjo-daro's ancient civilization and lamented the loss of Sindh’s historical records. He urged the Sindh government to publish literature on Shah Latif, Sachal, and Sami in English and Hindi to promote their messages of love and tolerance globally.
Renowned writer Jami Chandio emphasized Shah Latif's resistance poetry and Sachal's rebellious stance. He noted that the poetry of these icons holds key insights into Sindh's history and social fabric.
Dr. Sher Mehrani further elaborated on how the poetic works of Shah Latif, Sachal, and Sami challenged societal norms and advocated for tolerance.
Karachi’s Water Crisis Highlighted
During the "Karachi Kachhari" session, Mayor Murtaza Wahab acknowledged that water remains Karachi's most significant issue. "Karachi is the engine of Pakistan, and our focus is to meet its water needs," he said. The mayor also revealed a substantial increase in KMC's revenue, attributing it to better resource management.
Poetry Festival Sparks Enthusiasm
The festival also hosted a vibrant poetry session featuring poets such as Imtiaz Danish, Amar Pirzado, and Umair Najafi, who captivated the audience with their verses.
Drama and Marketing: A Contentious Debate
Drama writer Noorul Huda Shah voiced concern over the commercialization of Pakistani dramas. "Marketing people are now writing dramas, which is a dangerous practice," she remarked. Actor Nadeem Baig and actress Saba Hameed shared insights on the evolving trends in Pakistani television.
Book Releases and Literary Purchases
The final day saw the release of 12 books, with a large number of book enthusiasts flocking to the stalls to purchase literary works.
