Sindh CM Welcomes Students Returning from Kyrgyzstan Amid Mob Attacks

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Thursday welcomed 205 students returning from Kyrgyzstan at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, after last week's mob attacks in Bishkek.

Addressing the media, CM Murad highlighted the government's commitment to the safety and education of Pakistani students abroad. "This incident was a significant issue for these children, their parents, and our entire country. They were simply there to study," he stated.

The returning students included 99 from Karachi, 22 from Hyderabad, 13 from Khairpur, 15 from Naushahro Feroze, 12 each from Sukkur and Nawabshah, five each from Badin, Dadu, Mirpurkhas, and Jacobabad, three from Tando Adam, two each from Jamshoro and Kashmore, and one each from Kandhkot, Pano Aqil, and Tharparkar.

Arrangements have been made for their safe return to their respective hometowns.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar previously reported that over 3,000 Pakistani students had fled Kyrgyzstan, with numbers expected to exceed 4,000. In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs quickly established a crisis management cell to handle the situation.

CM Murad also noted that 180 students remain in Kyrgyzstan, with six sustaining minor injuries. The Sindh government has pledged to cover the repatriation costs for these students and provide necessary health checkups.

Regarding the continuation of their education, CM Murad praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for forming a 25-member committee, led by Dar, to integrate the returning students into Pakistani medical colleges.

He also acknowledged the efforts of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari in facilitating the students' safety through his contacts in Kyrgyzstan. "The responsibility of our citizens, wherever they may be, lies with the government of Pakistan," CM Murad affirmed.
