Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on Saturday, recognizing its unwavering sacrifices and professional excellence on the occasion of Air Force Day, observed annually on September 7.
The day, celebrated just after Defence Day, commemorates the PAF's critical role in defending Pakistan during the 1965 war against India. The prime minister praised the remarkable courage of the PAF personnel, who despite being outnumbered, successfully thwarted enemy attacks and upheld the nation’s sovereignty.
In his message, PM Shehbaz made special mention of Squadron Leader Muhammad Mahmood Alam, fondly remembered for downing five enemy aircraft in under a minute, marking a historic achievement in aerial combat.
"Pakistan takes immense pride in the courage, dedication, and commitment of its Air Force," the prime minister said in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. He further lauded the PAF’s exceptional service in safeguarding the nation’s skies and contributing to a stronger Pakistan.
Yesterday, on Defence Day, ceremonies and change of guard events were held at key sites, including Quaid-e-Azam’s mausoleum in Karachi and Allama Iqbal’s in Lahore, to honor the sacrifices of the fallen heroes of 1965.
