POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Federal Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has extended an invitation to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for dialogue, urging the party to come forward with serious proposals ahead of the upcoming National Assembly session scheduled for January 12.
Speaking on a private TV programme Capital Talk, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said PTI should approach the Speaker’s office with a clear and serious agenda if it is genuinely interested in talks. He expressed his willingness to engage in dialogue with senior and experienced PTI figures, including Fawad Chaudhry, Imran Ismail and other long-time party leaders, but stressed that they must have a clear mandate from the party leadership.
The federal minister pointed out internal contradictions within PTI, stating that Imran Khan had reportedly delegated political authority to Mahmood Khan Achakzai. However, he added, Aleema Khan’s stance — that anyone advocating talks does not represent PTI — creates confusion about who actually holds the mandate to negotiate on behalf of the party.
PTI leader Meena Khan Afridi, who was also present on the programme, responded by asserting that party founder Imran Khan has formally authorised Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas to hold talks. He said that if the government is sincere about dialogue, it should engage with the individuals who have been given a clear mandate by the PTI leadership.
The exchange reflects ongoing uncertainty and differing narratives regarding dialogue between the government and PTI, amid broader political tensions and calls for negotiations to address the country’s political impasse.
