Three FC Personnel Martyred in Suicide Attack on Peshawar HQ

Three personnel of the Federal Constabulary (FC) were martyred and two others injured in a suicide attack targeting the force’s headquarters in Peshawar’s Saddar area on Monday morning. The assault, claimed by the Jamatul Ahrar faction of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), unfolded around 8am on one of the busiest roads of the provincial capital.

According to police, the attack took place as FC personnel were assembling for the start of the week. CCTV footage showed a suicide bomber disguised under a chaddor approaching the main gate before detonating himself. Immediately afterward, two more militants attempted to storm the compound but were shot dead by alert FC personnel.

Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr Mian Saeed Ahmad confirmed that the swift response prevented a far larger tragedy. “Three militants tried to attack the headquarters. One terrorist blew himself up at the gate, while two others were gunned down. Due to high alert, they failed to enter the premises,” he said.

Emergency was declared at Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) and Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH), where 12 injured were shifted.

The FC headquarters — recently renamed from Frontier Constabulary — is located near the military cantonment and houses barracks, residences, and medical facilities. This attack marks the second major strike on a security installation in Peshawar within three years, following the devastating 2023 Police Lines mosque blast that killed 84 people.

Leaders Condemn Terrorist Attack, Praise FC Response

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack, lauding FC personnel for their “timely action” that prevented greater loss of life. He reiterated the government’s resolve to “crush terrorist designs” and offered prayers for the injured and the families of the martyred.

President Asif Ali Zardari similarly denounced the assault, declaring that “externally backed Fitna-al-Khawarij cannot weaken Pakistan’s unity or resolve.” Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to the “brave soldiers” of the FC who thwarted the attackers at the gate.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi attended the funeral prayers of the martyred personnel and visited LRH to meet the injured. He vowed that the sacrifice of the FC personnel “will not go in vain” and committed to strengthening the province’s counterterrorism capabilities. He noted that modern equipment had been ordered but was pending delivery.

KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and multiple political leaders, including PTI, PPP’s Sherry Rehman, and Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, also issued strong condemnations, expressing solidarity with the security forces and the bereaved families.

A Growing Pattern of Attacks

In a statement, Senator Allama Raja Nasir pointed to a “disturbing pattern” of recent attacks on security installations — from Wana’s Cadet College to Islamabad’s district courts and now the FC Headquarters — calling it part of a calculated campaign by “enemies exploiting Pakistan’s vulnerabilities.”

He demanded transparency, intelligence coordination, and decisive action to identify planners and financiers behind the attacks.

Pakistan has witnessed a renewed surge in terrorism, particularly in KP and Balochistan, after the TTP ended its ceasefire in November 2022 and resumed targeting security and law enforcement personnel.

Today’s assault comes less than three months after a similar attack on the FC Headquarters in Bannu, where six soldiers were martyred.
