The ongoing lawyers' sit-in on the Khairpur Bablu Bypass has entered its ninth day, as thousands of protesters continue to rally under the scorching heat. The demonstration is causing significant disruption in the region, with protesters raising slogans against the controversial canal project that they demand be scrapped.
In addition to the inconvenience caused to commuters, the protests have also severely impacted trade and transportation. In Naushahro Feroze, Sujawal, and Ghotki, the food supplies loaded in trucks have been damaged due to the ongoing blockage, threatening the availability of essential goods. The sit-ins have created a ripple effect, also affecting cattle transport, with animals suffering from hunger and thirst due to the stalled vehicles.
Further compounding the situation, coal stored in trailers and gas in tankers have become sources of concern, raising alarm over potential hazards. The continued closure of the national highway, particularly at the Sindh-Punjab border in Ghotki Tehsil Obaro, is exacerbating the already critical situation.
In Sujawal, protesters have taken out rallies demanding the immediate cancellation of the canal project, which they claim is detrimental to the region. Protest leaders have declared their intention to continue the sit-in until a formal notification to scrap the project is issued by the authorities.
The situation remains tense, and with the protests showing no signs of abating, the local population, especially transporters and traders, are growing increasingly frustrated with the prolonged disruption.
