security forces successfully eliminated a high-profile terrorist during an hours-long shootout in Diamer, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), officials confirmed. Seven others, including a young girl, an elderly man, and four GB Scouts, were injured in the operation.

GB’s Interior Minister Shams Lone confirmed the development, revealing that an accomplice of the terrorist was injured, while another is still at large and being pursued by security forces. "Terrorist commander Shah Faisal was killed during an intelligence-based operation in the Darel district of GB, while his accomplice, Zahidullah, was injured," Lone stated.

This operation is part of Pakistan's intensified nationwide crackdown on militant threats, particularly in northern areas where groups like the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) are active. While the affiliation of the killed terrorist remains unknown, Faisal was identified as the mastermind behind a deadly bus attack in Chilas last December, which resulted in nine deaths and 21 injuries, as reported by Dawn.

The recent Diamer shootout created a tense atmosphere in the district, prompting GB government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq to announce heightened security measures on the Karakoram Highway and in Gilgit city. Entry and exit points are now subject to stricter checks.

In response to the incident, the GB health department has imposed a health emergency across Diamer district. A notification issued by the department instructed all medical superintendents and district health officers to remain at their stations. Additionally, all doctors and paramedics are to be on duty, with an adequate supply of necessary medicines and ambulances ensured.

This decisive action underscores the ongoing efforts to maintain security and public safety in the region. Authorities urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local law enforcement.
