POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Islamabad, October 27, 2025 — Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari met Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Monday to discuss the evolving political situation in the country, particularly in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), where the PPP is positioning itself to form the next government.
According to the PPP’s media cell, the meeting took place at Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence in Islamabad, with senior party leaders Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Humayun Khan, and Jamil Soomro accompanying Bilawal. From the JUI-F side, Maulana Asad Mahmood also attended.
The two leaders exchanged views on national issues, the economic situation, and the shifting political dynamics following the defection of 10 PTI legislators in AJK, who announced their decision to join the PPP over the weekend.
With the addition of these members, the PPP now commands the support of 27 legislators in the 53-member assembly, surpassing its rivals and significantly boosting its chances of forming the next government.
The meeting also came a day after JUI-F announced plans for a “long march” on Islamabad to protest what it described as flawed government policies, rising inflation, and the country’s dependence on the IMF.
JUI-F Secretary General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri said the party would mobilize the public against economic hardships, asserting that “the government has mortgaged the economy to the IMF” and that “such policies will not be accepted.”
The discussions between Bilawal and Fazlur Rehman signal intensifying political maneuvering as opposition parties reassess alliances amid changing dynamics in both Islamabad and AJK.
