Pakistan, Bangladesh Vow to Strengthen Defence and Security Ties

Dhaka/Islamabad | October 27, 2025Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza and the chiefs of air and naval forces of Bangladesh have pledged to enhance defence and security collaboration between the two countries, according to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The meetings come after a thaw in Pakistan-Bangladesh relations following the popular uprising in Bangladesh in August last year that toppled the government of Sheikh Hasina. Bilateral trade and diplomatic engagement have seen a marked improvement since.

During his official visit, Gen Mirza met Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, and Principal Staff Officer Lt Gen S.M. Kamrul Hassan.

“Both sides expressed optimism about improving defence and security collaboration and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding military-to-military engagements and related initiatives,” the ISPR said.

The discussions included the evolving global and regional security environment, with both sides emphasizing the importance of strong bilateral defence and security cooperation. Gen Mirza also reaffirmed Pakistan’s appreciation for its longstanding fraternal ties with Bangladesh and expressed the resolve to deepen relations based on sovereign equality and mutual respect.

As part of his visit, the CJCSC toured the School of Infantry and Tactics in Sylhet, interacting with faculty and students. The ISPR noted that the Bangladeshi civil-military leadership praised Pakistan Armed Forces for their professional standards and sacrifices in counter-terrorism operations.

A ceremonial guard of honour was presented to Gen Mirza at Senakunjo, where he also laid a wreath at Shikha Anirban.

Earlier this year, in January, PSO Lt Gen Hassan had met COAS Field Marshal Asim Munir in Rawalpindi, where both sides highlighted the need for an enduring partnership resilient against external influences.
