POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, expressed his dissatisfaction with the federal government, stating that the party’s trust in Islamabad had been lost. His remarks highlighted the ongoing challenges facing Karachi’s business sector and underscored the PPP’s commitment to resolving the city’s issues, particularly in the face of a strained relationship with the federal administration.
Loss of Trust in the Federal Government
During his speech, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari made it clear that the PPP no longer trusted the promises made by the federal government. He criticized the administration’s claims, particularly around the issue of load shedding, saying that while federal officials, including the Prime Minister, insisted that the energy crisis had been resolved, the reality on the ground was starkly different. “Our trust in the federation has already been lost,” Bilawal remarked, signaling his party’s growing frustration with the central government’s handling of critical issues.
Commitment to Solving Karachi’s Problems
Despite his criticisms of the federal government, Bilawal assured the business community that the PPP was fully committed to addressing the challenges facing Karachi. Acknowledging the pivotal role of Karachi’s business sector in the national economy, Bilawal vowed to take action to resolve the longstanding issues that had been affecting the city’s growth and development. “The problems of the business community should have been solved long ago,” he remarked, emphasizing that the PPP would actively work towards solutions.
Direct Engagement with Business Community
Bilawal emphasized the importance of direct communication between the PPP and the business community. He reassured business leaders that they could approach his party for help instead of resorting to other avenues. “If anyone has any complaint, then contact us. There is no need to go elsewhere,” he said, highlighting the PPP’s approach of engaging with the people of Sindh directly.
Ending Extortion and Threats
A major part of Bilawal’s address focused on the improvement of the security and business climate in Karachi. He reassured the business community that extortion and threats, which had long been concerns for local industries, were no longer a problem. “Today, industries are not being forced to close in Karachi,” he stated, pointing to the progress made by his party in securing the city for entrepreneurs and workers alike.
Acknowledging Problems and Seeking Solutions
While Bilawal admitted that Sindh still faced significant challenges, he reiterated that the PPP was actively working towards solutions. “We are working for the betterment of Sindh,” he said, acknowledging the issues but stressing that they were not being ignored.
Bilawal also addressed concerns about strikes and protests, stating that workers had stopped participating in such actions and were now focused on resolving issues rather than disrupting the economy.
