CDF Munir Reaffirms Pakistan-Libya Ties During Visit by Field Marshal Haftar

Chief of Defence Staff (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir on Monday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Libya during a meeting with senior Libyan military officials.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Libyan Arab Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Khalifa Abu-al-Qasim Haftar and Deputy Commander-in-Chief Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar called on CDF Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

“During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, with particular focus on security dynamics in respective regions and professional cooperation,” the ISPR statement said. The discussions highlighted the importance of continued engagement and collaboration between the armed forces of Pakistan and Libya.

CDF Munir welcomed the guests, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Libya and emphasizing Islamabad’s support for peace, stability, and institutional development in the North African nation. The meeting was described as cordial and constructive, reflecting the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries.

Upon his arrival at Noor Khan Airbase, Field Marshal Haftar was received by CDF Munir and paid homage to Pakistan’s shuhada by laying a wreath at the martyrs’ memorial at GHQ.

The visit comes shortly after Pakistan signed a multi-billion-dollar deal in December to supply conventional military equipment to the Libyan National Army. According to Reuters, the over $4 billion agreement is among Pakistan’s largest-ever arms sales and will see the provision of advanced military hardware to Libya.

The visit underscores Pakistan’s strategic engagement with Libya and its role in fostering security cooperation and military professional ties in the region.
