POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reiterated the country’s commitment to an independent and balanced foreign policy, asserting that positive relations with the United States do not require silence on injustice.
“We strongly condemned the US attack on Iran. Our friendship with the US doesn’t mean we support wrong actions,” Dar said at a press conference in Islamabad on Thursday.
He emphasized Pakistan’s proactive diplomatic role in multiple regional crises — including the Iran-Israel conflict, the situation in occupied Kashmir, and solidarity with Palestine.
🌍 Pakistan’s Role on Global Issues:
- Iran-US Conflict: Pakistan condemned the US attack on Iran and made diplomatic efforts to prevent escalation. “We didn’t want Iran to be humiliated,” Dar said, noting that Iranian lawmakers raised slogans of gratitude for Pakistan.
- Kashmir at OIC: Due to Pakistan’s efforts, a coordination meeting on Kashmir was held at the OIC platform, and the issue was kept alive in international forums. “We thwarted the conspiracy to delay the UNSC conference,” Dar claimed.
- Palestinian Solidarity: Pakistan expressed full solidarity with Palestine during the OIC discussions on the Middle East. Dar highlighted that Turkish President Erdogan met Pakistani leaders with warmth, underscoring mutual alignment on regional issues.
- Diplomatic Engagements: Field Marshal Asim Munir’s recent visit to Istanbul was part of Pakistan’s broader diplomatic outreach. Pakistan also conveyed messages of support to Iran through official channels.
Dar added that countries including Russia, China, Algeria, and Iran appreciated and endorsed Pakistan’s balanced stance at the UN Security Council.
“Iran clarified that their retaliatory attack targeted US bases in Qatar, not Qatar itself,” he explained, underlining Pakistan’s behind-the-scenes diplomacy to de-escalate tensions.
As the foreign policy front grows increasingly complex with shifting alliances and global conflicts, Dar's remarks underline Pakistan’s attempt to maintain strategic neutrality while standing firm on regional justice and sovereignty.
