POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has lauded the Supreme Court’s constitutional bench decision that upheld the allocation of reserved seats to the ruling coalition and overturned the earlier verdict of July 12. The Prime Minister called the ruling a landmark judgment that reinforces constitutional supremacy and democratic integrity.
In a statement following the Supreme Court’s decision, the Prime Minister said,
“This verdict is a true interpretation of the Constitution and law. It is not just a legal win but a significant milestone in Pakistan’s democratic journey.”
The Prime Minister praised the government’s legal team for their professional conduct and tireless efforts in defending the constitutional position. “Our legal team has presented the case in line with constitutional principles and ensured justice prevailed,” he stated.
A Call for National Unity
In a notable gesture, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended an invitation to the opposition to engage in constructive dialogue. He emphasized the need for political maturity, urging all parties to work together for the prosperity and development of the country.
“It’s time to move beyond confrontation. The opposition must play a positive and democratic role in nation-building,” he added.
Supreme Court Overturns July 12 Verdict
On Thursday, the Supreme Court’s constitutional bench accepted the review petitions regarding reserved seats and nullified the July 12 decision, restoring the earlier ruling by the Peshawar High Court (PHC). The court’s verdict led to the loss of all reserved seats for PTI, shifting the balance of power.
Following the verdict:
· The ruling coalition will now secure 22 additional seats in the National Assembly
· And 55 seats in the provincial assemblies, significantly bolstering its strength.
Legal experts and political analysts have called the verdict a pivotal moment in ongoing electoral and constitutional debates, with potential implications for future governance dynamics.
