PTI Slams Supreme Court Verdict on Reserved Seats as ‘Gross Injustice’

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has strongly condemned the Supreme Court’s verdict on reserved seats, calling it “gross injustice” and a “mockery of public mandate.” In a joint press conference on Sunday, Chairman PTI Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Senator Shibli Faraz, and PTI leader Kanwal Shozab said the party will continue its political struggle despite the setback.

“There should be no doubt—our members are united and free. We will continue our political struggle,” said Chairman Gohar. “This decision not only violates constitutional requirements, but insults the voters who supported PTI-backed candidates.”

Barrister Gohar added that the reserved seats had already been notified by the Election Commission and were never challenged legally. He alleged the decision ignored past precedent set by eight Supreme Court judges who had ruled in favor of PTI on this matter.

“The larger bench's proper procedure was bypassed,” he said. “If this was about the 26th Constitutional Amendment, it should’ve been debated separately. Our mandate was stolen; we had 80 seats, and yet we were sidelined.”

He also criticized Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s perceived influence on the bench, stating, “The shadow of Qazi Faez Isa is not leaving us.”

Shibli Faraz: Constitution Being Distorted

Echoing Gohar’s criticism, Senator Shibli Faraz accused the state institutions of manipulating democratic norms to weaken PTI.

“The very shape of the Constitution is being distorted. Elections were delayed because PTI was expected to win. Even without a symbol, the people stood by us, and our candidates faced intense pressure,” he said.

Shibli raised concerns over unequal Senate election practices and questioned the Election Commission’s role, stating that National Assembly-linked Senate seats were left unfilled. He also condemned the government’s economic priorities:

“The Finance Minister is obsessed with debt. There’s no roadmap for economic independence—just more borrowing.”

Kanwal Shozab: A Dark Day in History

PTI leader Kanwal Shozab called the verdict a “dark day” in Pakistan’s political history, saying it has undermined the will of the people.

“The people voted for PTI’s original candidates. Those rejected by voters have now been rewarded with reserved seats. This isn’t democracy—it’s institutional rigging,” she said.

Shozab warned that the repercussions of this decision would impact political stability and democratic values nationwide.

Additional Criticism: Swat, Punjab Assembly Suspensions

Touching on other developments, Barrister Gohar called the Swat tragedy “deeply unfortunate” and confirmed the KP government had ordered an inquiry. He dismissed speculation about PTI candidates joining other parties, reaffirming party unity.

Regarding the recent suspension of PTI lawmakers in the Punjab Assembly, he called the move “blatant injustice” and politically motivated.
